It's Tuesday Already!

Coming back after a three day weekend is always difficult and our mornings always take a few extra minutes to jump back into! We didn't do to bad with our transition though! I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! We had quite a few friends cheering on the Irish at the game on Saturday...and one very jealous Mrs. Woods! :)

LA: We had a super busy morning today trying to get both Monday and Tuesday business done.
We started a new story this week, Our National Forest. It is a short story this week, packed with tons of great information. Our vocabulary words this week are: roamed, completed, journey, natural and wildlife. We also introduced 5 new RIT words this week: flashback, foreshadowing, idiom, climax and alliteration. Papers were passed out with these definitions and examples were given. Once again, we are going to be working on integrating these new concepts in our writing. We also reviewed last week's grammar skill of subjects, simple subjects, predicates and simple predicates. We are going to be working on this all week with our new grammar skill of combining simple sentences into compound sentences using conjunctions. Our spelling words this week all have a long /e/ sound in them...make sure to study the different ways to spell that sound in a word. Last but not least, we passed out assessments from last week. Please make sure to share these at home. Be on the look out for any pink stickers that say, "Sign and return."

HW: Weekly homework is due on Friday. Please, please, please make sure the story is being read out loud at home one night this week. We had many papers that did not have parent signatures on them last week...that will be an Oops slip this week if it is not filled in. Spelling test will also be given on Friday.

Math: We had the unit 1 test today.

HW: None

Social Studies: (Woods) Chapter 1 tests were passed out today. Again, be on the look out for a test that needs a parent signature. It will have a sticker on it. We also jumped into chapter 2--all about maps. Today, we learned about the 5 regions of the United States. I can't wait to learn about all sorts of fun geographical things!

HW: None
