Another Great Week Is Before Us!

Hooray for the Kingsmen and the Irish!

Here's a run down of our day:

LA: We had our spelling pre-test today. Our focus this week is on the long /i/ sound. Please check your blue folders for your lists to study in order to prepare for Friday's test. We also continued work with conjunctions in grammar. We even got to watch the School House Rocks, Conjunction Junction clip, to help us remember what to do with these parts of speech! We reviewed proper posture for good handwriting and started in on under curves to correctly make cursive letters. Last but not least, we got to go to Computer Lab for the first time this year. Students had a great time typing sentences with conjunctions.

HW: Fluency and Flow is due Friday. The students received specific instructions on what to do in the Words To Know section...please have them explain this and let me know if there are any questions. Both parts of the Words to Know need to be turned in, while the back of the Home School Connection only needs a parent signature verifying that it was done orally. Please also note--we have many Fluency and Flow papers being turned in without parent signatures verifying that the story was read aloud. Starting Friday, this will be an "Oops Slip" if it is not signed. Assessments from last week were returned today. The weekly assessment is the only one that needs signed and returned tomorrow.

We are looking for parents to send in healthy snacks for our LA kids during the ISTEP+ week. If you can help up out by sending in 25 healthy snacks on either Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of next week, please let me know as soon as possible. Please list at least 2 days that you can send something so we can have a back up if that day is already taken. Thank you for your help in keeping our minds on the test rather than our bellies.

Math: We worked with place value to the hundred millions today. We did a lot of work on the floor with white boards reviewing place value and values of numbers in those places.

HW: Math Boxes 2.3, Study Link 2.3 and the extra practice worksheet. We are still in need of a couple more boxes of raisins for a math lesson on Wednesday.

Health: Today was the first day with Mrs. Suddarth's Class. We brainstormed different things we want to learn about in Health this year. We also talked about the different systems in the body and then watched a Magic School Bus special, Inside Ralphie.

HW: None

My Homeroom Kids: Please check Ms. Grannan's blog at www.greetingsfromgrannan.blogspot.com for any Science information you may need.

Things to take note of:
*The Welcome Back Picnic and Game Night is this Wednesday from 5:30-7:30. Plan on coming to NP to catch up with old friends!
*WSTAR applications and letters are due by Friday if you are interested in trying out for the school wide news program.
*ISTEP+ window starts next week. If you know that you are going to be gone any part of the week, please let Mrs. Woods know right away. We have a limited time for make up testing and need to get that scheduled.
