Another Monday Rolls Around...

I think the cool weather is finally upon us! Please consider grabbing a sweatshirt or light jacket for recess!

LA: We had our spelling pre-test today. Our skill this week is /ch/ and /tch/ which caught a lot of us! We also started unit 2 in reading today, with our first story, Mighty Jackie. Our vocabulary words this week are legendary, snickering, insult, fluke and flinched. Please ask your child what these words mean...they will need to know them by Friday for the assessment. We are also focusing on context clues once again. A new skill introduced this week is author's purpose. We spent quite a bit of time discussing why author's write. We determined that most stories are for one of 3 reasons...to entertain, to inform or to persuade. Our grammar skill this week is common nouns.

HW: Fluency and Flow is due Friday. Our normal assessments will also be given on Friday, just at a different time. Don't forget that the weekly assessment record sheet needs to be signed and returned tomorrow.

Math: We are ready to start unit 3. As it is review for most of us, we are working through the first 7 lessons by working in a packet. Students are working through this packet on their own, using me as a resource as I use this opportunity to meet with small groups to brush up on skills.

HW: Unit 2 test needs to be signed and returned tomorrow. The completed packet is due on Monday.

Health: Welcome Ms. Grannan's class. We had a great first day getting to know each other again! My how the group has grown up! We had a great discussion about owning our own feelings and dealing with them in appropriate ways.

HW: Questions 1-4 on page 23 need to be done in complete sentences and cursive.

We are continuing to have many playground/recess issues. If your child is coming home and sharing this with you, please let us know as soon as possible. As much as we try to be everywhere all the time, we find it impossible to do! :) We want to make sure that all kids are being treated fairly and kept safe!
