Welcome, October

I can't believe it's already October!  Wow!

Interesting Fact of the Day: The Starbucks at the highest elevation is on Main Street in Breckenridge, Colorado!

LA: We began our next story this morning, Davy Crockett Saves The World.  With this story, we will be focusing on the following vocabulary words: impress, commenced, wring, advertisement, fireball, elected, original, and sauntered.  In Grammar, we will be working with subjects and predicates.  We continued on with our writer's workshop packet today as well.  It was all about plot and learning the plot diagram this morning.  We're getting closer to writing our books.

Our RIT words for the week are:
Oxymoron: a contradiction of terms
Plot: A series of intervening events, showing cause and effect, making up the total action of the work.
Tone: The overall feeling, or effect created by a writer's use of words.  This may be serious, humorous, or satiric.
Assonance: The repetition of vowel sounds without repeating consonants
Antagonist: The character or force whose opposition to the protagonist is the main source of conflict.

HW: Weekly homework packet is due Friday.  Please send in the $1.50 for the writer's workshop books if you haven't already.  Don't forget pages 14 and 15 are due tomorrow in your WW packet.

Math: Angles, angles, angles today!  We had a lot of fun practicing measuring angles with protractors.  Most of us remembered this skill well from previous years so it was a nice review.

HW: Math journal pages 68-69, along with math box 3.4 and study link 3.4 are all due tomorrow.

Social Studies: (Grannan) We made it through the first three sections of chapter 3 today.  We're learning a lot of information about the different Native American tribes and where they settled.

HW: None
