It's Safety Week at PHM! We will be practicing Bus Safety tomorrow afternoon as part of the week's activities!
I hope everyone had a great weekend! Look for the pictures to come home tomorrow or Wednesday. Picture retakes are going to be October 26th.
Language Arts~
We began a new story in our readers today. It is called Ultimate Field Trip 5 and it is a nonfiction story about going to Space Camp. It tells all the different ways the astronauts prepare for going into space and adds real life facts about space trips. Our comprehension skills include asking questions to check understanding and summarizing the main ideas. Our vocabulary skill is focusing on context clues and using descriptions to figure out words. Our vocabulary words for the week are: maze, function, adjusted, gravity, zone, environment, disasters, and mission. Our spelling focus is on r-controlled vowels sounds and our grammar focus is writing complex sentences. All assessments from Friday were passed out today. Be on the lookout for selection assessment, spelling, grammar, weekly, RIT (may be in green binder) the weekly homework packet from last week.
RIT Words:

Cliche-An overused word or phrase that springs quickly to mind but just as quickly bores the user and audience.

Caricature: A distorted character resulting from the author's deliberate exaggeration of a trait or traits of personality.
HW: Weekly Homework is due on Friday. Don't forget to get parent signatures. Safety posters are due Wednesday...this will be part of your writing grade for the week!
Math~We're ready to jump into the next unit after Friday's test! Unit 4 is all about division. We pretested today so that we can really focus our instruction. Unit 3 tests were passed back today...watch for them in folders tonight!
Social Studies: (Grannan) We had the chapter 3 test today.
