It's ISTEP+ time!

We start ISTEP+ testing tomorrow.  Don't forget to get to bed early so you can get plenty of sleep.  Get up in the morning and eat a protein filled breakfast and pack a healthy snack!  We will have two testing sessions tomorrow...one in the morning and one in the afternoon!  Be prepared to do your best on the test!

Wonderful Wednesday

We're anxiously continuing to prepare for next week's ISTEP+ (part 1!)  We're spending some time each day reviewing skills that we have learned this year in 4th grade!

LA: We jumped right into our short week yesterday morning with our new story, "Because of Winn Dixie."  I was shocked that this was a new story for so many of us!  We are learning about summarizing, adjectives, onomatopoeia, similes, words with double consonants and continuing our work on pronouns--all skills that go with our selection this week!  We continued all of these today, in addition to doing some "On our feet" thinking to help us prepare for the writing portion of the ISTEP+!  We had a lot of fun!

HW: Spelling test will be given on Friday.  The family instruments are due on Friday as well.  This is our last full week of I Love To Read...let's break our previous reading minute records!

Math: We have started unit 9, which has us working with turning fractions into decimals and percents.  Yesterday we concentrated on working with decimals out of 100, today, we branched out into "easy fractions"  Example: 1/2, 1/4, 1/10, 1/20

HW: Complete the back of study link 9.1, math box and study link 9.2

Don't forget that we are still going strong in our reading challenge for WSBT!  Calendars are due tomorrow...hopefully we'll hit another school goal with everyone turning in their minutes.

LA: We worked very hard at typing up our poems in computer lab this morning.  We also reviewed protagonists, hyperboles and possessive pronouns and contractions.  We finished off our time together with a visit to our reading buddies and vocabulary vine.

HW: All normal assessments will be given tomorrow.  I Love To Read reading calendars are due tomorrow...this counts as a homework assignment, so Oops Slips will be given if not turned in.  We will also be having a camp under tomorrow in the ELA.

Math: We took our unit 8 test today.

HW: None

Social Studies: (Grannan) We had a great time comparing farm life from the 1800's to the 1900's.  We even spent some time pretending to be farmers, farm wives, young children living on a farm and hired hands.  We shared a lot of laughs!

Terrific Tuesday

What a GREAT day we've had!

LA: We continued on our journey through this week's story, and learning about coral reefs.  Today in grammar, we concentrated on when to use possessive pronouns and when to use contractions.  This was quite tricky for some of us!  We also spent quite a bit of time on parts of speech.  We reviewed common and proper nouns, verbs, adjectives, appositives, and pronouns.  We challenged ourselves to color code all parts of speech in 10 different sentences.

HW: Finish the parts of speech worksheet and keep reading and recording!

Math: Area of a triangle proved super challenging for many of us.  We got the hang of it near the end of class however.

HW: Math box and study link 8.7, journal pages 242-243 and the extra sheet are all due tomorrow.

Social Studies: (Woods) The students had a great time learning about life on a farm in the 1800's.  I think we're all pretty grateful that we don't have to plant 50 acres of crops by hand!  Whew!

HW: Keep reading and recording!  We're about to hit our first landmark as a school, and we need everyone's help!

Getting Back On Track!

I'm making a pledge to get better at blogging...I've been kinda slacking lately!  So sorry!

Don't forget that our Stars in Service is selling Gum Grams Tuesday and Wednesday in all ELA's.  They are 2/$1.

LA: We introduced our new story this morning, Adelina's Whales.  With the story, we started working with possessive pronouns, sequence of events, and the story vocabulary.  We also carved out some time for silent reading to help reach our goal for the I Love To Read Challenge.  Congratulations to Jenna, Darby and Alex for winning last week's raffle.  We are still in need of some raffle prizes as well.

HW: Spelling test will be given on Friday.  Don't forget that the expectation is that instead of weekly homework, all students are reading at least an average of 30 minutes per night.
