It's amazing just how quickly 6 hours can go by! We rarely have down time, but Monday's seem to be even busier than normal!
LA: After IMC and gym today, we had a lot to do! We had our spelling pre-test to determine what lists everyone will be studying this week. Please note that it may not be the same as last week! Don't forget the final spelling test over these words will be given on Friday. We also introduce 5 RIT words this morning. Each week, we will be studying 5 words that will help our vocabulary, writing and MAP testing knowledge. This week we are focusing on assonance, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, simile and metaphors. In addition to studying those literary terms, we will also be focusing on our story vocabulary words this week, which are: shimmer, eerie, lurk, swallows, climate, silken and lumbering.
We also went over Weekly Homework today at great length. Please remember to do all sections (write in spelling words, read our story out loud to an adult, read independently each night and complete the page attached to the back). This packet is due Friday.
HW: Weekly homework is due Friday. Spelling test will be given on that day as well. Don't forget that Book Orders are due on Wednesday!
Math: We had a great time working with compasses today. This was a first for many of us. We even learned how to make inscribed squares using only the compass. It was a lot of fun exploring!
HW: Journal page 12, math box 1.6 and study link 1.6 are all due tomorrow.
Social Studies:(Grannan) What would it be like to be an archaeologist 500 years from now? What kind of artifacts would best help them learn about the lives we live? We explored these questions today by finding "artifacts" in the trash and writing about them as if we were those archaeologists in the future.
HW: The first test will be given in Social Studies on Friday for Ms. Grannan's class. The test will cover everything from chapter 1. Be on the lookout for a study guide to come home Wednesday.
