Slushy Monday!

Yikes! It's quite a slushy mess out there! Ugh! I can't wait for Spring.

LA: We had a very busy morning today, getting a lot done. We finished up assessments from Friday about last week's story. We also started a new story this week, Carlos and the Skunk. With our story this week, we are working with the vocabulary words: arousing, nestled, secluded, arroyo, unpleasant, behavior, glimpse, stunned. We are going to be learning about subject and object pronouns this week as well. In our skills, we are learning about author's purpose. We are also going to be doing quite a bit of review for next week's ISTEP+ test.

HW: Weekly homework due Friday. Our LA class has made a deal regarding I Love To Read Minutes...don't forget to read like a maniac and bring your calendars on Friday.

Math: We're taking a break from our journals this week to do some review for ISTEP+. Today, we focused a long time on problem solving. We've started a new thing...students will be given a POW (Problem of the Week) on Monday to solve during the week and needs to be turned in on Friday. We are also starting to really focus on writing in Math, (WAM) and will be answering a math related question each night as part of our homework. We also worked on some multiplication and division review on the board.

HW: POW is due Friday, WAM #2 is due tomorrow along with the the problems from the packet that was passed out in class.

Social Studies: We had a review of the 8 explorers that we've been learning about in chapter 5. We continued reading about the last two before sharing the summary and reading further sections together.

HW: Chapter 5 test is Wednesday. Page 30 in the Independent Student Notebook is due tomorrow.

Take Note:
Next week is our first round of ISTEP+ testing for this year. Here is the schedule:
Tuesday-3/2 11-11:45 & 1-2:05
Wednesday-3/3-8:05-9:15
Thursday-3/4-8:05-8:45

Please let me know as soon as possible if you know that your child will be missing any of those testing sessions! Students need to get a good night's rest prior to taking the test and eat a healthy, protein filled breakfast. They are welcome to bring a healthy snack and gum to chew during the tests.
