Another day closer to Spring!
LA: We worked hard on a tricky puzzle during Vocabulary Vine this morning. Working with the root cap was a bit trickier than we thought it would be. We also focused more on object pronouns, accented syllables in our spelling words, context clues and magazine decks.
HW: Weekly homework due tomorrow, along with the I Love To Read calendars. We will also be having a camp under tomorrow, don't forget to bring your stuff!
Math: Angles, angles, angles today! We also reviewed some common conversions and practiced problems doing multi-step conversions.
HW: Angle and perimeter page, as well as conversion sheet are due Monday! No math tomorrow due to the field trip for Mrs. Doms and Mrs. Suddarth's classes, so POW is due on Monday. Also, WAM #18 is due Monday.
Social Studies: We jumped right into chapter 6 today, going over vocabulary and discussing the challenges we would face moving to a new country.
HW: If you received an N on your test, you need to get that signed and brought back tomorrow. Dont' forget to complete page 32 in your independent student notebook as well.
ISTEP+ is almost here. Are you ready?

Tons To Do Tuesday!
There's just never enough time to squeeze everything in!
LA: We had a short morning due to our double specials and some time spent with Mrs. Slater. The boys enjoyed a visit with her while the girls stayed with me to chat! We continue to search for ways to handle some of the behavior issues that we are seeing displayed in 5th grade. We also worked on more grammar, continuing to learn about subject and object pronouns. Lastly, we worked for a short while on published books...there are quite a few of us that are finishing up the typing process and getting to the illustrations. Please remember that if you are bringing in pictures to use, you will not get these back. Pictures should start arriving at school now so that everyone can be ready as soon as their book is printed on the published book pages!
HW: Weekly homework is due Friday. Don't forget to read--we're trying to reach 1,000,000 minutes so we can participate in a Staff vs. Student Olympics here at Northpoint.
Math: Today was a trip down memory lane with a lot of board work reviewing prime factorization, adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers, adding and subtracting decimals and changing improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa.
HW: The rest of the multiplication and division packet is due tomorrow, along with teh even numbered problems from the factorization packet and #1 in the WAM packet. Don't forget that the POW is due Friday.
Social Studies: We spent the day reviewing for tomorrow's test. It will be over chapter 5. Many students have a better understanding of what they need to review tonight in order to be best prepared for tomorrow's assessment.
HW: Chapter 5 test tomorrow-page 31 in the Interactive Student Notebooks is due tomorrow as well.
Don't forget:
Next week is ISTEP+ testing. Please refer to the schedule that was sent home with your child. It is very important that all students get a good night's rest, eat a healthy breakfast and be at school on time! Please let me know as soon as possible if your child is going to be absent for any reason next week.

Wonderful Wednesday!
We had a great day today!
The 5th graders were given temporary assigned seats in the lunchroom today due to some recent behavior. We're looking forward to allowing them to go back to choosing their seat mates very soon--we just need to see some improvement in their choices!
LA: Normally, we have a long morning together on Wednesdays because we don't have any specials...today, however, that wasn't the case! We squeezed in an IMC session since we will miss ours when we are on our field trip on Friday morning. We also visited with our reading buddies, for a very short time this morning. We worked on spelling sorts, using context clues to finish sentences and our vocabulary words that go with our story.
HW: Weekly homework is due Friday
Math: Today we spent our time together working through a review test for tomorrow's unit 9 test.
HW: Review the practice test and come prepared with questions for tomorrow's test.
Social Studies: Special thanks to Mrs. Demel, Mrs. Ohlson and Mrs. Pollyea for their wonderful Art Smart presentation. We had a great time learning about Edward Hopper.
