Happy 1/2 Day!

Wow, time flies when you are having fun...or at least when we only have school until 10:20!

Due to the short day we only had LA today! We spent time reviewing our Vocabulary Vine words by completing a crossword puzzle. We also "wrote to the finish" in a writing marathon about football and hockey! We squeezed in time for parts of speech review as well as read aloud and DEAR!

I hope everyone has a great afternoon! I'm looking forward to meeting with students and parents at conferences!

Red, White & Blue + Slippers?!?!?! What A Day!

What a rainy day we had. It felt good to be in our toasty slippers today!

LA: We went through our usual routine of assessments this morning. We also had a special visit from South Bend Fire Chief who talked to us briefly about staying drug free! In addition to those things, we also worked more on our idiom pictures. They are fantastic!

HW: Enjoy the weekend! I'm looking forward to meeting with parents on Monday and Tuesday! Please note: I will do my best to keep things moving on schedule because of sibling conferences and the number of families I see. If you are for some reason late for your conference, it will still end at the scheduled time to avoid backing everyone else up!

Math: Today we had a pop quiz on unit 4 today. It was over adding and subtracting decimals, as well as ordering decimals.

HW: None-Have a great week...I won't see you due to our half days and Fall Break!

Health: Students had the chapter 2 test today.

HW: None

Don't' forget that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is early dismissal. Students will be released at 10:20 on each of those days. If your child is attending the special Kid's Club or going home a different way then usual, please don't forget to send in a note. There is no school on Thursday and Friday!

Do your best to stay dry this weekend! Go Irish and Kingsmen!

Brilliant in Blue!

Even though we were dressed the part, we didn't have any blues today! :)

LA: Idioms all around! We had a great discussion on idioms today and started a project using them! Try to incorporate as many into family discussions as possible and check to see that your child is understanding their real meanings! We discovered it's really fun to play with words! We also spent some more time on our grammar skill of special plural nouns. In addition, we also reviewed parts of a book and their jobs!

HW: Fluency and flow is due tomorrow. We will also be taking our spelling test as well as all the other assessments! I'm looking forward to meeting with you all next week. If you need a reminder about your day and time to come, please send me an email for confirmation!

Math: Get our your wallets...we learned how to balance the checkbook today! :) We spent the day working through journal pages with partners on continuing our skill of adding and subtracting decimals. Please continue to have your child practice this skill at home...counting money, receipts, bills, etc., is a great way to master this concept!

HW: Journal pages 88-89, 91-93 are due tomorrow

Health: Students worked through Chapter 2 review today in preparation for tomorrow's test.

HW: Chapter 2 review, 1-24 answer only 25-28 complete sentences. Test tomorrow!

Don't forget to put on your patriotic clothes and slippers tomorrow. We are collecting money for Tami, the snow leopard one last time!

We are still in need of parents to come in and help out tomorrow...if you are available, please let me know as soon as possible!

We Were Wonderful In White!

We are in the middle of Red Ribbon Week! If you haven't taken the opportunity to start up a conversation about this very important topic with your child yet...now is the time!

LA: What a great morning! We were able to continue adding to our Vocabulary Vine word parts and also sort spelling words! We had the chance to see our Reading Buddies again after a week off last week! The play is going well, keep practicing those lines! Mrs. Slater visited once again with the third bullying session, she provides very interesting and thought provoking information! Ask your child about what they are learning during this time together. For writing today, students went through their writing starts and chose one they are going to publish. We discussed changing at least 5 words to make them better and fixing at least 3 sentences to help the organization of the piece.

HW: Fluency and flow is due on Friday. Check out the bright pink piece of paper that came home in folders today! We need some parent helpers on Friday for a variety of jobs!

Math: Students began to add and subtract decimals today. Some of us are still struggling with lining up the decimals...you can help us out by having your child add up money and prices in the store. Going out to eat? Have your child estimate the cost before the clerk gives you the ticket!

HW: Math boxes 4.3, 4.4 and Study Link 4.3 and 4.4

Health: We had our first Art Smart today. Thank you to Mrs. Demel for a fantastic presentation and to Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Ohlson, Mrs. Drye, and Mrs. Iapalucci for helping out. We can't wait to see our artwork hung in the hallway!

Don't forget to wear blue tomorrow for Red Ribbon Week!

Slipper Day is Friday. Bring a donation to help us reach our $1,000 goal for the zoo.

Red Ribbon Week Begins Today!

Today is the start of Red Ribbon Week! Our theme this year is, "I elect to be drug free!" This is such an important week for the students and an amazing opportunity to open up conversations at home about this very important topic and being drug free!

LA: Today was a normal Monday. We started out by taking our spelling pre-test, which focuses on words with the letters shr, thr, spr, scr, and spl. Please practice spelling words all week in preparation for Friday's test. We also shared our story, Focus on China, and went over this week's comprehension and vocabulary skills. We will be working on fact and opinion and also compound words this week. In grammar, we focused on plural nouns with special spellings, such as goose/geese, foot/feet, mouse/mice. In computer lab we took some time to reflect on the meaning of Red Ribbon Week and wrote paragraphs about the purpose, the importance and also making a pledge to remain drug free. For writing today, we created Drug Free posters, as part of a school wide project! Watch for our class winner in the lobby next week during conferences!

HW: Fluency and Flow is due Friday. The spelling test will also be given on Friday, along with the other reading assessments. Practice page 53 is due tomorrow!

Math: Students had a guest teacher today during Math. They started in on unit 4 by exploring decimals by using base 10 blocks.

HW: Math box 4.1 is due tomorrow

Health: Students had a guest teacher today during Health. Students learned about very important parts of our bodies and what they do for us.

HW: Page 14 is due tomorrow

Don't forget to wear RED tomorrow for Red Ribbon Week!
Students need to wear WHITE on Wednesday.
We are wearing BLUE on Thursday.
