So Much To Be Thankful For...

Interesting Fact of the Day: They have square watermelons in Japan--they stack better.

Don't forget: DARE essays are due on Wednesday.  Officer Redman will be coming to pick them up!

LA: We're continuing on with our novel study...we're finding Maniac Magee to be a fantastic read!  We're coming across some heavy topics...often some that weigh heavily on our hearts.  This a great discussion point at home...be sure to talk about it!  We began by taking the vocabulary quiz from the previous section, and chose new words for this section as well.  Our figurative language focus was on dialect, colloquialism, irony, symbolism, conflict, foreshadowing, hyperbole, stereotype, bias, dialogue, problem and solutions and making inferences.  We also took a spelling pre-test today.  Only the first 10 words will be given since this is a short week.  We also spent some time analyzing a chunk of chapter 17 (the hyperboles) and took some time to mimick Jerry Spinelli in our own writing.

HW: Finish the journal entry, comprehension questions, writing and study for your vocabulary quiz tomorrow.  Don't forget a quiz over Part 1 of the book will be given on Wednesday.

Math: We finished up unit 5 with some partner work today...focusing more on circle graphs and how to create them.

HW: Journal pages 157-158, math boxes 5.11 & 5.12 and study link 5.11 are all due tomorrow.  The test will be given on Wednesday.

Social Studies: (Woods) We read the Reading Further section together today as a class, and then began working on the pages in the Interactive Student Notebook that are due Wednesday.

HW: ISNB pages 30-32 are due Wednesday.  The chapter 5 test will be given that day as well.
