ISTEP Math-Tuesday, April 26th 9:00-9:40 and 10:00-10:40
ISTEP LA - Wednesday, April 27th 9:40-10:30 and 10:45-11:30
ISTEP Science - Thursday, April 28th 8:55-9:30 and 9:45-10:20
You can help us by making sure the students are at school and well rested and well fed. They may bring mint gum to chew during ISTEP. Healthy snacks are encouraged.

I'm Behind....AGAIN!
Although I never blogged about it, we really did have a GREAT week at Northpoint last week! Just in case you missed the Blue Man performance...here is a picture of all our great Blue Women that had a blast celebrating our students who read 1,000,000 minutes in February! What a fun day!
Spring Break is just around the corner! This week is always one of the hardest to stay focused...please help us out by talking to your child at home about doing their best all the way through Friday!
LA: We took our Unit 5 test today, covering all of the concepts we have learned for the past several weeks. We also had our RIT word test this morning as well. Our story this week will be called "Exploring the Undersea Territory" and we will be jumping into the short story tomorrow.
Math: Positive and Negative Numbers today! We had a great time learning all about positive and negative integers and how to add them! We even learned a song about them!

Social Studies: (Woods) We read our way through chapter 11 today. Since this is a short chapter, we are going to be ready for the test on Friday of this week. It was fun reading about the Colorado River and all of the demands people made on it.
HW: Read sections 11.9 & 11.10 and complete page 73 in Interactive Student Notebooks. Test over chapter 10 will be given on Friday.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Our Blue Ribbon School sure was GREEN today! :) We had a lot of fun!
LA: We worked hard to get caught up from our week...I'm not sure how we even got so behind. Today, we worked on grammar (putting commas in sentences following introductory words), spelling words, using directions to create something, writing our own set of directions and using context clues to figure out what unfamiliar words mean.
HW: Weekly homework is due tomorrow--don't forget all normal assessments will be given as well.
Math: We split our day between game day and finishing assessments.
HW: None
Social Studies: (Woods) We finished up chapter 10 with the summary. We also began work on our rough draft of the letter.
HW: Letters are due Monday-test will be given on Wednesday.

Don't forget to wear your green tomorrow...
Another great day here at Northpoint! Don't forget that tomorrow night is Galaxy Gallery. This is a fantastic time to come tour the building and check out the amazing artwork that is on display all over! The Book Fair will be open as well!
LA: We spent a chunk of our time together working on character traits today, using our story, "Me and Uncle Romie." We also continued our work on more vs. most, our grammar skill this week. We ended our morning together with Vocabulary Vine.
HW: Weekly homework is due on Friday.
Math: Unit 9 assessments were passed back today...check for them in backpacks! We also worked on some standard assessments today. Many of us will need to finish tomorrow.

Tuesday, Tuesday!
Thursday is Go Green day. Stars in Service is raising money for the river otter exhibit at the zoo. Students can pay $1 per item and be able to wear green pajamas and hats, chew green gum, or bring green stuffed animals. Remember no hair dye.
LA: We have started a new story this week titled "Me and Uncle Romie." We discussed our story vocabulary (skyscrapers, collage, barbecue, glorious, strutting, flicked and swarms) and vocabulary skill: looking for a context clues in the descriptions of things. We also discussed the comprehension skill of thinking about the characters. We learn about characters by what they do and say. In addition to all of this, we started talking about the adjectives more and most.
Our RIT words for the week include....
plot - the sequence of events in a story.
contrast - looking at the differences between two objects or ideas
metonymy - a type of metaphor in which something closely associated with a subject is substituted for it. For example using the silver screen to refer to movies, the White House to refer to the president and the crown to stand for a king or queen.
job Announcement - written statements describing duties and responsibilities of a position.
editorial - an article giving opinions or perspectives.

Social Studies: The Land Rush! We had a super time learning about Texas and Oklahoma today. We also really enjoyed acting out the "The Land Rush" in the LGI!

March Madness!
Welcome back to school! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekends.
LA~
Today we had IMC and Gym. We came back to class and took our spelling pretest and then learned a lot about making judgments from our lesson with Mrs. Eggleston. Our comprehension skill for the week is evaluating what we read by making judgments. Are the characters people you would like to be friends with? Why or why not? We also reviewed our vocabulary: selfish, bumbling, cranky, commotion, exasperated, specialty and famished. Our vocabulary skill is antonyms.
HW: We DO have weekly homework this week! RIT quiz will be given on Thursday. Bubble gum writing is due tomorrow.

Moral - concerned with the principles of right and wrong rather than law or custom
Multi syllabic - Words with more than one syllable

Hip, Hip, Hooray!
We've made it through ISTEP+ Round 1! I would like to compliment all the students on staying so focused this week! ISTEP+ testing always provides just a little bit of extra stress and they did a fantastic job!
LA: We are back to our normal routine today. We spent quite a bit of time reviewing our RIT words with a review Bingo game today. Many, many, many of us are really struggling with getting these words learned. There will be a quiz over all of the words that have been studied on Thursday of next week. Words that should be learned by now are:

Math: We spent time reviewing skills in computer lab today using the Odyssey program. We also continued our work on probability review.

Social Studies: (Grannan) We jumped on our big rig today to start the tour of the Southwest Region of the United States. We had a lot of fun learning about the Hoover Dam, Phoenix, Arizona and Monument Valley.
HW: Make sure your group is ready to present their Hoover Dam proposals first thing Tuesday afternoon.
