It never ceases to amaze us how tired everyone still looks after sleeping in!
LA: We had just enough time to sit down, stand up, get in line and go to music!
HW: Fluency and flow is due Friday! Don't forget that cursive spelling is due tomorrow, along with the clerihew poems and alliteration papers.
Math: More fraction practice! We did quite a few more problems on the board and more practice sheets on changing improper fractions to mixed numbers, vice versa, and adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.
HW: Finish the first three pages in the new packet.
Health: We reviewed the lesson that students read yesterday and talked about the importance of nutritional information and ingredients. We also learned about ways to keep our selves from getting food poisoning and keeping our cooking areas clean and sanitary.
HW: 7 sentences using vocabulary words are due tomorrow. The chapter 4 test will be given on Friday. Don't forget to get your quiz signed. Bring in boxes for your 3-D food guide pyramid.
Don't forget the PTO Read In is tomorrow night!

Just Another Manic Monday...
1...2...3...Go! We're off to another great start!
LA: Today was the start of another story in unit 4! This week, we are reading a Time For Kids, all about energy! This non-fiction story gives us lots of great information! With the story this week, we are learning about persuasion, working with word definitions and spelling words with special vowel sounds! Our spelling pre-tests went much better this morning than this time last week! :) We also spent time typing up our poetry in computer lab. In addition to reviewing the poetry we already have created, we added a new type today: Clerihews! Alliteration was also reviewed during writing time!
HW: Clerihew poem, alliteration paper and cursive spelling words are all due Wednesday! (I'll only have time to say "Hello and go to Gym," tomorrow. Fluency and flow is due Friday. We've shaken things up a bit this week...there is no Home and School Connection! Depending on where your child goes for Vocabulary Vine depends on the homework they are doing in addition to their questions! Some have a drawing conclusions/inferences sheet, others have a Latin/Greek word root sheet. Also--please double check the comprehension questions...many are being completed in incomplete sentences and we are past that! Last call for book orders!
Math: Fraction Floor Fun! We spent the entire day reviewing fraction concepts on the floor with white boards today! We also learned about adding fractions with unlike denominators and not using pictures! :) Be sure to share about common denominators!
HW: None!
Health: One more time! After taking a good long look at the quizzes this weekend, they just weren't that great! Today, the students had the opportunity to go back over them with their books this time and correct them! From the ones I saw being turned in, they look much better.
HW: Read pages 128-131. Lesson Check Up 1-3, must be written in complete sentences!

And The Winners Are...
Trenton Law and Liam Gilroy! Congratulations to our Science Expo winners! Trenton will be going on to Notre Dame and Liam is one of the alternates! I've very proud of every student for their hard work on this big project!
LA: Today was a busy morning! We sorted spelling words (which are proving to be quite tricky for us this week!), spent time with our reading buddies, took the poetry quiz, and started a special new poem! We also took a break to visit the Science Expo!
HW: Fluency and flow is due Friday!
Math: We continued work on our fraction packet tomorrow. We are going to go over it tomorrow and hopefully at least begin our test, otherwise it will be given on Friday.
HW: Study for the test and finish the fraction packet.
Health: We had a great time learning about the food guide pyramid today! We read important information and also filled out a chart that will come in handy when it's time for the test.
HW: Finish the lesson check up, 1-4 (complete sentences) and study for the quiz which will be given on Friday-from the first 2 lessons.

Mother Nature Is Tricky...
Please come prepared for outdoor recess...which means boots, snow pants, gloves, hats and warm jackets! Even though the sun is shining, we learned today, it's not all that warm...or dry!
LA: We had a very quick LA block today because of double specials. We squeezed in some Vocabulary Vine time, grammar practice-learning about reflexive pronouns and also more about drawing conclusions. We introduced onomatopoeia today and did some practice sentences.
HW: Fluency and flow is due Friday. Onomatopoeia sentences are due tomorrow. We are also having a poetry quiz tomorrow.
Math: Fractions, Fractions, Fractions! We worked on a fraction packet today, reviewing important skills from this unit. It worked out well that during this time, I was able to visit small groups and individuals to give help where needed on certain skills!
HW: Unit 7 test is on Thursday.
Health: No health today--we finished up science expo presentations! I'm very impressed with the amount of work that went into making such awesome projects. It appears that a lot of learning took place!
HW: None
Don't forget we are collecting Pennies for Peace!
Please make arrangements to pick up your Science Expo project by 5:00 tomorrow evening!

6 More Weeks Of Winter?!?!?!? Are Ya Kiddin' Me?
Can we really take 6 more weeks on winter? I may have to have a word with that groundhog...
LA: This week we are reading The Blind Hunter which is about a blind man who lives in a small village. We are continuing to work on drawing conclusions for our comprehension skill. We are also going to be working on word families and plural patterns in spelling. Our pretest gave quite a few of us trouble today...make sure you study well before Friday's test! We also started learning about subject and object pronouns today.
In computer lab, we researched poems that we can recite starting next Monday. Each student was responsible for finding a poem that they liked, printing it out and memorizing it by their presentation date next week. Here is our schedule (Picked at random)
HW: Fluency and flow is due Friday, spelling test will also be given on that day! Free verse poems are due tomorrow as well as your cursive spelling words.
Math: More probability today! We spent time working on more experiments to learn about probability. The unit 7 test will be Thursday!
HW: Finish page 225
Health: No health today! We stayed in home room classes to start to present Science Expo! All 11 presenters did an excellent job! Our room 25 scientists taught me A LOT today! I can't wait to hear the other presenters tomorrow! Don't forget to come visit Science Expo on Wednesday from 3:00-5:00. Please arrange a way to get your child's project home on Wednesday. You can take it whenever you come visit the Expo! Please do not leave it here!
Happy Birthday John O.!
