Hip, Hip, Hooray, We Sent The ISTEP+ Books Away!

Wow! What a hard-working, test intensive week...and we survived! I'm very proud of all the students and watching them put forth their personal best on each test! It's a good feeling to be done for the year!

LA: We were in LA groups all day because of our last ISTEP+ tests. We had one this morning, one during our usual math time and one again this afternoon. We also completed another graphic organizer for our novel study, The Sign Of The Beaver, for chapters 3 & 4. In addition, we started to explore some of the vocabulary words that we are going to be learning about.

HW: There is a comprehension check (quiz) over chapters 1-4 for our novel study due tomorrow. Also-the literary terms are due tomorrow...please note...all spaces on the literary form charts WILL NOT be filled up until we reach the end of the novel. Please don't stress!

No Math or Health today.

Don't forget your $1.00 and gum tomorrow--all donations will go towards the Silver Mile.

Welcome to the 11 ducklings that are now living in the court yard! They are so fun to watch waddling around.

What A Wednesday!

Wow! Just when we thought the clouds would break, we were inside again! Bummer!

LA: Today we took our last English/LA ISTEP+ test. This was another long one. We just have one more day of testing and we are done with ISTEP+ for the year. Hooray! We also had reading buddies and worked in our novel study today. As a group, we were able to read chapters 3 &4, go over literary terms and also fill in our comprehension chart for chapters 1 & 2. Literary terms are due on Friday, class time was given to get these done.

HW: One more night of going to bed in plenty of time and eating a healthy breakfast. We have three more tests tomorrow.

Math: Today we spent the day continuing to go over volume of various geometric shapes.

HW: Math boxes 11.3, 11.4 and 11.5. Most students completed this in the 35 minutes given in class.

Health: No health today due to Art Smart. Special thanks to Mrs. Demel for presenting "Girl Before A Mirror" by Pablo Picasso, the self portraits look awesome. Thanks to our helpers, Mrs. Mason, Mrs. Meyer, & Mrs. Iapalucci.

HW: Ms. Grannan's class has a quiz on chapter 6, lessons 1 & 2 on Friday.

ISTEP+-Here We Go Again!

Another fun filled day!

LA: It was an odd sort of day with ISTEP+ testing back again. We had three tests today, all about Math. The students seemed MUCH more at ease this round, thankfully! We also started our novel study today, The Sign of the Beaver. We had a great time reading the first two chapters, highlighting our books (that's right, highlighting right on the pages...with permission, even!) and searching for examples of all sorts of literary elements. We discussed and found examples of things like similes, metaphors, colloquialism, imagery, suspense, tone, and flashbacks! Who knew there was so much to take note of in 2 short chapters! Wow! It is expected that your child has this book with them everyday until we are finished.

HW: Rest up for ISTEP+ testing tomorrow...just one test on Tuesday. Also-finish writing literary examples on the charts for our novel study. The final novel study packet and tic-tac-toe items are all due on May 15th. While ample class time will be given to accomplish these tasks, some work may have to be brought home to complete.

Math: No math today due to ISTEP+ testing-see you tomorrow.

Health: Welcome Ms. Grannan's Class, it's good to have you back! Today, we jumped right into chapter 6, lesson 1. We talked a lot about the differences between prescription and over the counter drugs. We also discussed in detail why it's important to take your own prescriptions, not those of family members or friends.

HW: Finish chapter 6, lesson check up 1-4. These answers must be written in cursive and be in complete sentences. (Most students finished this in class!)

Don't forget:

ISTEP+ will be given every day until Thursday. It's very important that if you child is healthy, they are at school. This will reduce the stress of having to reschedule make ups and taking your child out of class at a later date.

HW: Vocabulary Vine quiz tomorrow, spelling test and other assessments as usual tomorrow and don't forget fluency and flow is also due.
