What A Wednesday!

We had a wonderful day today at Northpoint!  Don't forget that Friday is picture day!

LA: After going over the comprehension questions for chapters 3 and 4, we read chapter 5 together aloud.  We also continued work on our vocabulary words and character development.  We're still finding great examples of figurative language as well.

HW: Vocabulary quiz tomorrow over words from chapter 5.  The comprehension questions should be written in complete sentences and ready to go over tomorrow morning.

Math: We spent the entire day learning about prime and composite numbers.  This was a great review of the factors and divisibility lessons we have done the past couple of days.

HW: Journal pages 18, math box and study link 1.6 are all due tomorrow at the beginning of class.

Social Studies: (Grannan) We continued moving forward with our work in chapter 1.  We finished up reading all the sections and worked on more geography challenge cards.

Tuesday, Tuesday

Many thanks to Mrs. Helman for the amazing new layout of our blog.  I hope you are enjoying it as much as we are!

If you have hopped over from Mrs. Suddarth's blog...she is having some technical issues...but she will be blogging SOON!

LA: We continued on with our novel study this morning, reading chapter 4 together.  All students should have received their copy of the book today, so they can now follow along!   We're taking a lot of time and discussing the figurative language examples and vocabulary words that we come across as we read the chapter aloud.  We also added some important events onto our time lines as well.

HW: Vocabulary quiz on chapter 4 words will be given at the start of class tomorrow.  All comprehension questions are due--written in neat handwriting and complete sentences.

Math: We learned divisibility rules today.
  • All numbers are divisible by 1
  • All even numbers are divisible by 2
  • A number is divisible by 3 if you add up the sum of the digits in the number and the answer is divisible by 3.   Example: 225   2+2+5 = 9     9 is divisible by 3, therefore 225 is also divisible by 3.
  • A number is divisible by 5 if it ends in a 0 or 5.
  • A number is divisible by 6 if it is divisible by both 2 and 3
  • A number is divisible by 10 if it ends in 0
We also reviewed factors of a number.

HW: Math boxes and study links 1.4 and 1.5 are due tomorrow.  There was also an extra sheet passed out.

Social Studies: (Woods) We continued our work on our geography challenge cards.  After going over the correct answers, we continued reading sections 4 and 5 and working on a new set of challenge questions.

Welcome Back!

It was so good to see everyone this morning at our parent meeting.  Thank you for taking time out of your day to come learn about 5th grade.

LA: We are loving every minute of our novel study, Percy Jackson and the The Lightning Thief.  We read chapter 3 today together as a group and worked in literature circles to answer the questions orally.  We also concentrated on figurative language examples and character development.

HW: Complete writing out answers to the comprehension questions for chapter 3.  Vocabulary quiz over chapter 3 will be given tomorrow morning.

Math: We worked on factors, factor pairs, and factor rainbows today in class.  This is a great time to brush up on those multiplication facts if they aren't secure quite yet...

HW: Math box and study link 1.3, along with the extra sheet are all due tomorrow at the beginning of class.

Social Studies: (Grannan) We had a really fun day learning about relative vs. absolute location.   We also jumped into chapter 1 and worked on some geography challenge cards with a partner.
