We're off to a long weekend! Hooray!
LA: It was another assessment Friday. We did squeeze in a bit of time in our handwriting books after assessments! Please watch for all assessments to come home on Tuesday. Just like last week, the weekly assessment's score page will need to be signed and returned!
HW: Students should be well into one of their books they are going to be doing for the reading projects this nine weeks. Don't forget, one book needs to be read and a cereal box needs to be created, the other book needs to be an Accelerated Reader book and the test passed with at least an 80%. Please remember each student should be reading 20-30 minutes each night and that time should be recorded in the agenda daily.
Math: We had math centers today. This allowed us some time to work on multiplication facts, and a review sheet of 3rd grade skills, including place value, ordering numbers and addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers.
HW: The math test was moved to Wednesday! It's never to early to study!
Health: We reviewed our vocabulary we've learned so far in chapter 1. We also went through lesson 3, which explained and taught us about all of the feelings we deal with in our lives.
HW: None!
**Special Note: If you find yourself at the pet store this weekend...Dr. Pepper could really use some supplies. For those of you that have not been introduced to him, he's our chinchilla! We are in need of food, dust and shavings. All of these items can be found in almost any pet store. (He's not really fond of the raspberry scented dust however!) Our 4 legged friend thanks you!
Happy Birthday today to Isaiah! Happy Birthday on Sunday to Madi!
I hope everyone has a very fun, safe holiday weekend! I can't wait to see you Tuesday!

Thrilling Thursday!
Another great day here in room 25!
LA: Thursdays are our other short days of the week due to double specials. Today we had our DEAR/Triumphs time and then got to practice using great word choice in our writing. We had fun exploring different ways to say ordinary words by playing a form of Taboo! Everyone had a great time!
*A special note: Snacks are getting a bit out of control! Please remember to send in one healthy snack with your child. We've had everything from cookies, to doritos to a buffet of 4 kinds of cereal. This is just meant to tide them over, not fill their bellies! :)
HW: Our spelling test is tomorrow. Fluency and Flow is also due tomorrow. Students should be bringing home a small yellow rectangle shaped paper today from Highlights Magazine. Please take a moment to fill this out, even if you aren't interested in receiving this publication. Our classroom will receive free items based on the amount of slips returned, even if they are no thank yous!
Math: We reviewed everything we have worked on so far this year today. In addition, we took a quiz over specific topics. Although I graded the quizzes, they were not entered. We went over these in class and reviewed again.
HW: Math boxes 1.7. Test over unit 1 will be given on Wednesday!
Health: Today we reviewed the vocab words from yesterdays section 1. We also read through section 2 together, carefully going over the vocabulary from this section as well.
HW: Questions 1-4 on page 25 need to be completed.
Happy Belated Birthday, Alexis! So sorry I missed it on here yesterday!

Say Cheese!
Everyone looked their finest yet! Picture day is one of my favorites...everyone comes in dressed up, hair combed and looking good! Here's what I heard on the way back to our room after pictures..."Whew, at least I got that done before lunch where I had a chance to spill! My mom would have been mad!" I love the honesty of children!
We had a bit of a crazy day because of our picture taking schedule. We had a very short LA period, then came back to homeroom from 9-11, off to math from 11-lunch and then again in homeroom from 12:45 to the end of the day. Even with our mixed up times, we worked hard and got through a lot!
LA: We reviewed complete and simple subjects, complete and simple predicates, using context clues to help us decode and find meaning of big, unfamiliar words and we also practiced our skills in prompt attacks.
HW: Fluency and flow is due Friday. The spelling test will also be given on Friday.
Math: Today we worked with compasses again. We also learned about circles. We practiced making concentric circles and figuring out the diameter, radius and circumference as well.
HW: There is no homework. Please remember if you have a compass at home, you might want to bring it in!
Health: Students were given back their quizzes. They need to be signed tonight. We also jumped into chapter 1 and learning about traits and what makes everyone special. A special thanks to the Drye family for sending in the skull model so we could closely check out the bones and sense organs we've been discussing. The kids had a great time checking it out!
HW: Students need to read pages 18-21 and answer 1-2 on page 21. Don't forget to get quizzes signed.
We had a special guest, Mrs. Slater, come in today. Mrs. Slater is our Youth Service Bureau Counselor here at Northpoint. She came in to give us strategies on problem solving conflicts with friends and family. We now have a problem solving chart in our room that can be used to help aide in the problem solving process.
Don't forget to keep selling those items for the fund-raiser. It sounds like we are off to a fantastic start. We even have someone that has sold 25 items! Wow...way to go!
Things to look for in the blue folders tonight: PTO volunteer sheet and Northpoint Newsletter!

Terrific Tuesday
We had another great day today! It sounds like lots of selling is going on for the Northpoint sponsored fund-raiser...that's great news! Keep it up!
LA: Today is our short day of LA due to double specials. We were able to work on a spelling page where we sorted ways to spell words that have the long a sound. We also partner read the story and shared our read aloud book.
HW: Fluency and Flow is due Friday, along with the spelling test. The book order due date has been extended one day!
Math: Today we learned how to use compasses. We had a lot of fun exploring the use and purpose of them, and then focused on making concentric circles. The students quickly figured out that we don't have the best compasses in the world! If you have one at home that not being used, I'm sure they would enjoy bringing it to school!
HW: Math boxes and study link 1.6.
Health: Today was the quiz over the skeletal, digestive and muscular systems. That's all we had time for! :)
HW: None
Don't forget picture day is tomorrow...bring your smiles!

Another Fresh Start!
We had another fresh start today! We're finally cooled down and ready to go! Thanks again for all your patience last week during the "warm up" at school!
We had our fundraiser kick off this morning on WSTAR! Midland has provided us with a great opportunity to help out Northpoint! Students should have come home today with the envelopes and ordering information. There are some great incentives to work towards! Please consider sharing this with family and friends to help out Northpoint! Completed order forms and money is due back on Monday, September 8th.
LA: Our story this week is called, A Walk In The Desert. We went over vocab words and listened to the story on CD this morning. We also took our spelling pretest which focuses on long a patterns. Due to a change in PHM's grading policy this year, there was a slight change in how spelling lists were assigned. With the new policy, 100%-85% is now a P, 84%-65% is an M and below 64% is an N, therefore, spelling lists may look slightly different than last week. We also worked on main idea and supporting details today, along with subjects and predicates in grammar.
We continued work on our ISTEP preparations using our new writing program. The students are doing a fantastic job putting more details and thought into their writing. We will continue to work on this in the days to come.
HW: Fluency and Flow is due Friday. The spelling test will be on Friday. Students were given back all their assessments today. Please look over them carefully with your child. There is one that needs to be signed and returned tomorrow. Book orders are due tomorrow!
Math: We spent quite a bit of time on polygons today. We learned about important prefixes in math and what they mean. We also discussed the difference between concave and convex polygons!
HW: Math Boxes 1.5, Study Link 1.5 and the subtraction sheet from Friday's centers are all due tomorrow.
Health: We reviewed the three systems that will be on our quiz tomorrow: Digestive system, skeletal system and muscular system. We also talked about the circulatory system, nervous system and lastly the respiratory system.
HW: Study for the quiz tomorrow.

It's The Weekend!
We had another great, cool day here at Northpoint! A special thank you to all of the moms that gave up part of their mornings to come in and help out! I am very grateful for your help!
Please make sure you carefully go through backpacks sometime before Monday. You will find an important paper in there about Picture Day, which is on Wednesday and also a sheet regarding Lego League which will be starting up soon.
LA: We had an assessment filled day. Fridays are pretty jammed packed with the assessments that we do from our reading series. For this being the first time, the students did an excellent job working through them. Please watch for these to come home on Monday. The only test that needs to be signed and returned will be the back sheet of the weekly assessment. More info. about this on Monday's blog.
HW: It's never to early to start thinking about the reading project that is due on October 10th. Please also remember that book orders are due on Tuesday!
Math: We had our first center rotation day. The students rotated around 3 centers. They had the opportunity to do some math fact practice on the computer, play a game reviewing place value and work on subtraction with regrouping on a review sheet.
HW: None
Health: Today, we reviewed the skeletal system and introduced both the muscular and digestive systems. There will be a quiz on these three systems Tuesday.
HW: Students need to get the sense organ quiz signed over the weekend.
I hope everyone has a great, safe weekend! Go Penn!

Hooray for Cool Air!
Hooray...we reached a comfortable 74 degrees in here today! I think the air conditioning is on the road to recovery! Thank you for your patience during this toasty time!
LA: We reviewed our vocabulary words for the week. The students will need to know these for their test tomorrow. We again went over the 4 types of sentences. We also worked with more of our writing prompt from Monday and will continue using these writing exercises to prepare for ISTEP. We discussed the book project for this 9 weeks today. There is a blue paper of information that you should see tonight in your child's blue take home folder. This is something that the students should start planning for. We discussed the importance of not waiting until the last minute.
HW: Fluency and Flow is due tomorrow and we will also have a spelling test.
MATH: Today we had a pop quiz over what we have learned so far. This went well for most of the students. Please watch for this to come home tomorrow. It will need to be signed and returned. We also completed a lesson on parallel lines.
HW: Math box and Study Link 1.4
Health: We had the quiz over the sense organs today. This used up all of our time!
HW: There is none unless the skeletal sheet was not completed last night.

We've Made It A Week!
A special thanks to the Brough Family for providing us with a fan today! It helped greatly! We've gotten word that things should be a bit better tomorrow...please keep your fingers crossed!
LA: We met our reading buddies today. It was tons of fun getting to be on the other end of reading buddies and remembering back to a few years ago when we were the first graders who were scared of the "big kids!" We're looking forward to a great year with our buddies from Mrs. McGann's class. We also worked on spelling and grammar skills. In writing today, we revisited our writing from Monday, looking for sentences that don't belong and making sure that all questions from the prompt were answered with details.
HW: Fluency and Flow is due Friday. Spelling test is Friday and Book Orders have come home!
Math: We learned about angles today. Please ask about the difference between acute, right, obtuse and straight angles. We're also continuing to work on taking notes!
HW: Math Box 1.3 and Study Link 1.3
Health: Today we reviewed the Sense Organs...our quiz is tomorrow. We also learned all about the skeletal system and 206 bones in our bodies. We even got to watch the "Bone Dance" done by Hannah Montana! :0)
HW: Quiz on the Sense Organs tomorrow! There was also a skeletal system sheet that some students did not finished that is due tomorrow.
Quote of the Day: "Good morning Sunshine, the world says hello!" said to me by Rachel as she came to give me a morning hug!
Can't wait to see you tonight at Parent Information Night.

Our First Tuesday
We had a pretty steamy day today! There is a small issue with the air conditioning at Northpoint, so sending in an ice cold water bottle with your child is a great idea. It seems to be most bothersome after we get in from recess, are already sweating and can't cool down. Please plan accordingly with clothes choices! :0)
Language Arts:
We went over our grammar skills this morning-different types of sentences. Make sure you ask what the 4 types of sentences are and what kind of end punctuation they each require. We also went over a new procedure we will be doing each morning with DEAR time. This will be a Tues-Fri thing and the students are all expected to have a book they can get into immediately when we start. During this time, there are also a handful of students that are pulled out to get some extra practice on our reading skills.
HW: Fluency and Flow is due Friday. We will also be having our spelling test on Friday.
Math:
We learned about line segments, lines and rays today. Most of us learned how to take notes in math for the very first time.
HW: Math boxes 1.2 and Study Link 1.2
Health:
We learned about the 5 sense organs today. There will be a quiz over the parts of the eye, ear, nose, skin, and tongue on Thursday.
HW: Study for quiz on Thursday
Another great day! I hope everyone has cooled down!

We're Into The Thick Of Things!
We had a wonderful start to our week today! We are right in the thick of things with our class switches and are in the midst of jumping into all curriculum areas.
Please Note: If you have not turned in your yellow emergency card we are only two away from having our full class set. Please send it in tomorrow! Also-if you are still holding onto the Getting To Know Your Star sheet, that provides us with valuable information we want to know about your child, please send it in as soon as possible. Also--please don't forget that Parent Information Night is this Wednesday, from 5-6. There has been a time change due to the DMS Parent Night conflict.
LA-We had our spelling pre-test today. Each child should have their list of spelling words for the week, highlighted in their folder. The spelling test will be given on Friday. We also listened to The Mystery of the Missing Lunch today. This will be the story that we are working on this week. Using this story, we will be learning about problem/solution, using charts to organize information, using a dictionary to look up unfamiliar words, fluency and comprehension. Students were assigned Fluency and Flow (F/F) today. There are 4 parts to this homework assignment.
Part 1: The students need to read the story aloud to someone older then themselves. Whoever listens needs to please sign the F/F sheet.
Part 2: Students need to complete the 5 questions at the end of the story in complete sentences and good handwriting.
Part 3: Students need to complete the Word Workout section on their F/F sheet. This needs to be done with an adult's help.
Part 4: Students need to complete the back of the F/F sheet using the directions provided.
All parts of Fluency and Flow are due on Friday. If it is not turned in, an Oops Slip will be given.
Math: Today in math we took a mini tour of our Student Reference Books (SRB) The students were able to familiarize themselves with the layout of the book. Page 3 in their journals was assigned for homework.
Health: We began a short discussion on the body systems and what they do for us and how they keep us healthy. We watched a short video that went into a bit more detail! We're looking forward to diving into the sense organs tomorrow.
We had a very busy day!

What A Great First Week!
We had a super first week of learning together. Thank you for all of your patience as we've gone over procedure, after procedure and paper after paper! Today was our first day of switching classes and it went very smoothly! This even came up many times when we were sharing our favorite part of the week at the end of the day today!
Just in case you haven't turned in the Emergency Cards yet, we need those Monday. If we don't receive them, the phone calls will start coming! :0) All of the other papers from these first days of school are equally important as well...please try to get them all in on Monday!
Please take note: Our Parent Information Night time has been moved up an hour and a half. It will be held from 5-6 instead of 6:30-7:30. We've received some phone calls today letting us know there was a conflict with the Discovery Parent Night for 8th graders. We are sorry for the confusion! Just when we thought we were on the right track...oops!
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Another Delightful Day!
We're on a roll! We had another delightful day today! The only homework for tonight is to get initials in your agenda and have your parents fill out the "Help Us Learn About Your Star" sheet. Don't you love homework that the parents have to do? :0)
Just a reminder...if you haven't brought in your important papers that came home yesterday, including the emergency card, we need those tomorrow! They are very important to us and we would like them all turned in and accounted for as soon as possible.
Don't forget about Parent Information Night next Wednesday! I'm looking forwad to seeing everyone then!

We Survived Our First Day!
We survived! We had an amazing day together! I'm pretty sure we have the best 4th grade class at Northpoint! :)
Don't forget to go through the big brown envelope this evening and fill out all those very important information sheets. Please return those back to me as soon as possible! There is also a sheet in the handbook section of your child's agenda that needs to be read through and signed as well.
Please watch for Parent Information Night information to be coming home tomorrow. Our Parent Information Night is next Wednesday, August 20th at 6:30.
We're off to a fantastic start!

Please watch for Parent Information Night information to be coming home tomorrow. Our Parent Information Night is next Wednesday, August 20th at 6:30.
We're off to a fantastic start!
